Enlarged Prostate – a Common Problem

Half of all men between 50 and 60 years old will have developed an enlarged prostate. By the age of 80, ninety percent of men have had symptoms of BPH.

BPH is “benign prostatic hyperplasia”. This is the medical term for an enlarged prostate. It is so common in men that it is more likely than not they will have prostate health issues at some point in their lives.

An enlarged prostate causes uncomfortable and even painful symptoms such as a weak stream, difficulty starting to urinate, frequent urination and the inability to empty the bladder completely.

I’ve had urinary troubles for a very very long time. at least for a few years now, and i’m 17 years old.

It’s a bit embarrising to talk about, even anonymously, But my problems are feeling the urge to go and not being able to, or very little, feeling like i have to go after i finish, having to go the bathroom frequently, feeling some slight pain sometimes while going, and sometimes having to strain to go despite feeling urgency.

I was watching tv and a commerical for enlarged prostate medicine came up, and i talked to my mom about it, and when i asked her if i might have that, she said that i was “too young to have that”, but still, the symptoms match up very well.

Enlarged Prostate Factors

There are thousands and quite possibly millions of men who are suffering with an enlarged prostate at this very moment. Also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH, this condition affects most males over the age of 40, and more commonly over the age of 60. While being diagnosed with this might scare men, it is not a sign of future prostate cancer.

It is known that men produce a male hormone called testosterone, which is also the most important chemical in their body. Men also produce a very small amount of the female hormone estrogen. As a man ages, his amounts of active testosterone will decrease. The ending result is a higher level of estrogen. Some research studies have shown that when there is a higher amount of estrogen, it might promote more growth of cells in the prostate, which later results in BPH. There is another theory that suggests that when dihydrotestosterone accumulates within the prostate, cell growth is also promoted.

Human aging is a result of a number of biological and pathological processes and starting at age 40, the levels of by-product prolactin of testosterone of men increases, stimulating the production of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase that causes the conversion of testosterone to gihydro-testosterones DHT triggering prostate enlargement and other problems. Therefore in order to prevent the symptoms of enlarged prostate is to naturally impend the conversion of testosterone to DHT.

Is there new medical procedures, new pill to cure an enlarged prostate?

Enlarged prostate symptoms rarely manifest before the age of 40. For some men, symptoms might not even occur at all. However, the condition called BPH or enlarged prostate affects almost 90 percent of men in their seventies and eighties, while more than 50 percent of men who reach their sixties experience symptoms.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) or Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy is a condition characterized by the enlargement of the prostate gland; a common occurrence since it is quite normal for men’s prostates to enlarge as they age. The growth of the prostate has two main phases; the first is during puberty, when the size of the gland doubles; and the second is at around age 25, when the gland starts growing again. The second growth phase often results in BPH years later. Some of the more common enlarged prostate symptoms include weak stream of urine, difficulty in starting urination, dribbling and leaking of urine, a strong and sudden desire to urinate especially at night, a feeling of not emptying the bladder, and in some cases, blood in the urine.
