Mt. Sinai Hospital Urologist Dr. David Samadi breaks down what the Glaxo Smith Kline drug Avodart can do. Dr. Samadi discusses how not all men should take Avodart. The drug inhibits testosterone and prostate enlargement. However it only lowers the slower type of prostate cancer and not the aggressive type. He would only give the drug to those with an enlarged prostate or a family history. The side effects include reduced libido, cardiac issues, but may also help baldness. But it also reduces the PSA which is what Samadi uses as a benchmark for tracking prostate cancer.
